4K Wrap Care
The Mequon-Thiensville Recreation Department is pleased to offer on-site 4K Wrap Care for our families with children enrolled in four-year-old kindergarten at Donges Bay, Oriole Lane, and Wilson Elementary schools. The program will be offered from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m., with AM and PM sessions available.
- Location: Wraparound care will be available at all three of our elementary school sites - Donges Bay, Oriole Lane, and Wilson.
- Hours: 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. If additional care is needed before school (6:30 a.m. - 9:00 a.m.) or after school (4:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.), please visit our MTSD Recreation Department website for Kids' Campus registration information.
- Pricing: $42 per day, with a minimum requirement of two consistent days per week. There is also a $25 registration fee and a registration form required per each 4K student enrolled.
- How to Enroll: Formal enrollment for 4K Wrap Care will occur in May. Subsequent registration will then occur week by week by the Wednesday prior to the week of care needed. There is a maximum enrollment limit of 20 children per session (AM and PM).
Why 4K Wrap Care?
The implementation of a 4K wraparound program further prepares MTSD to act on transitioning to a full-day 4K program should the state shift to funding such an endeavor. Included in the last to state biennial budget recommendations were requests from WI DPI to modify current law to allow school districts to count 4K students enrolled in a full-day, five days/week program as 1.0 FTE in the pupil counts that are the basis of school districts’ general aid membership and revenue limit membership, and the basis of state payments to private parental choice schools and independent charter schools. Current law permits 4K students to be counted as either 0.50 FTE or 0.60 FTE (if additional hours of outreach are provided), regardless of whether the 4K program is operated as a part-day or a full-day program.

The 4K Wrap Care program will offer activities that include: arts and crafts, indoor and outdoor group games, puzzles, story time, quiet/rest time, music, and free play. Wraparound sessions will encourage both physical and social emotional growth through play and recreation while providing supervised, safe group activities.

Supervision for the 4K Wrap Care program will be provided by highly qualified 4K Wrap Care staff with extensive childcare experience. There will be a full time 4K Wrap Care Lead in each of the classrooms, accompanied by a part time 4K Wrap Aide (one AM Aide, and one PM) at all times during the wraparound sessions of care.

The MTSD Recreation Department’s 4K wraparound care program affords families a high-quality childcare option provided right in the school building, so children do not have to be transported elsewhere before their parents' working days are done. For those families with additional elementary school-aged children, the program increases the likelihood that all young siblings are in the same location.

With guidance from the MTSD 4K coordinator, the Recreation Department’s 4K wraparound care program activities will be coordinated with and mirror what the children are working on in their 4K classroom.
The program also provides an opportunity to boost public school enrollment in our community. The wraparound program provides families accessing full-day 4K programming in the area (Lumen Christi, University School, Trinity Lutheran, Christ Alone, etc.) a public school option for full-day instruction and care.

The cost of running the MTSD 4K wraparound program is similar to that of the MTSD Recreation Department’s Kids Campus before and after school program. The program is supported by user fees. Like the school district’s other recreation department programming, the intent of the program is not to be profitable, but to provide an additional service and option for families.

Care programs that are run by public schools are not required to be licensed by the state of Wisconsin. While not licensed, The 4K Wrap Care program and the Kids’ Campus program closely follows state guidelines including student to teacher ratios, healthy snacks, physical activity requirements, and health and safety requirements.

Yes. However, the 4K Wrap Care program does not provide any kind of one-on-one staffing for any student who needs individualized/personalized care due to educational or behavioral needs while attending our program.
